MEA TIMETABLE, OCTOBER 1957.

This document is based on MEA's schedules of October 1957.

MEA's workhorse became the Vickers Viscount, which made possible the long awaited services to Western Europe. Photo: MEA

MEA's route to London was flown in 8 hours with 2 stops: Athens and Rome or Zurich. Frankfurt and Vienna were recent additions to the network, as MEA flew there twice weekly via Istanbul.

MEA truly lived up to its name in 1957 as its network offered convenient connections to the main cities of the Middle East: Cairo, Baghdad, Jerusalem, Aleppo, Nicosia, Ankara, Teheran, Kuwait, Jeddah, Dhahran, Bahrain and Doha.

MEA used 2 Avro Yorks for all cargo flights in 1957. Photo: MEA

Cargo was also an important part of MEA's activity, as all cargo flights were operated with Avro York equipment.

This beautiful map shows MEA's route network of 1957.
