MEA TIMETABLE, SUMMER 1971.

This document is based on MEA's schedules timetable summer 1971 N°11/A.  It gives a fair idea of the airline's operations during the transition period to an all Boeing 707/720 fleet.  During this period MEA 's fleet was composed of 3 Boeing 707s, 6 Boeing 720s, 2 Convair CV990s , one Comet and one Caravelle.

The Convair CV990 was very popular with both pilots and passengers. Copyright Frank Ebeling@Airliners.net.

Thus MEA's operations included daily flights to London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Nicosia, Amman, Cairo (twice daily) and Jeddah. Six flights were flown every week to Kuwait, Dubai, Doha and Bahrain, five to Abu Dhabi, Dhahran and Baghdad, three to Frankfurt and Geneva, two to Ankara, Copenhagen, Brussels, Zurich, Vienna, Milan, Benghazi, Aden and Khartoum, and one to Kano, Abidjan, Lagos, Accra, Monrovia and Freetown.

MEA was progressively replacing its Convair CV990s with Boeing 720s bought from American Airlines. The Convairs as well as the Comet and the Caravelle will be withdrawn from MEA's fleet in 1972. Photo: MEA Postcard.

The introduction of the all Boeing fleet will cut costs and increase profitability. MEA will add more nonstop flights and increase frequencies to existing destinations and will add new destinations to its network over the next few years.
